Time to Quilt?

I have started quilting my Slideshow quilt but lately there has been no time to quilt.  Other chores have been beckoning, such as removing wallpaper and painting in my Mother-in law's house.  We have had her house on the market since about June and some of the feedback we have received tells us that the kitchen is not showing well.  Can I say that I will never put up wallpaper in my house...ever!  The wallpaper came off easily it's the paste residue on the walls that is giving us fits.  We expected to have the kitchen and hallway painted by the end of yesterday and that just didn't happen.  How to make time for quilting when there are so many other things that need taken care of?

The weather is supposed to turn hot again by mid week along the eastern coast.  To help you cope with the hot temps and sticky humidity here's a COOL picture to keep you more comfortable!

This was a snow storm we had in 2010.  As our westies have short legs my husband shoveled a path for them.  They jumped in the deep snow anyway!  Because they are white it's hard to keep track of them when there is snow on the ground.  This particular storm brought us about 10 inches of snow.

Quilt Progress and End of Vacation

The temperatures were so hot last week that I holed up inside my nice, cool studio.  How hot was it?

This snapshot shows the temp over 100 degrees just after noon time...not even the hottest part of the day!  The heat has finally broken today but it still made it to 90 degrees.

So I was on vacation this past week and had so many things that I wanted to get accomplished.  I did make it to one quilt store to purchase batting and backing fabric for my quilt in progress.  Family joined us for a 4th of July barbeque which was a lot of fun - it's always nice to catch up!  We did not make it to the beach as we had hoped.  It was just too hot!  I did get some piecing time in and finished putting the borders on my quilt.  The quilt is called "Slide Show" by Adkinson Designs.  I saw a sample of the quilt at my LQS.  The shop had chosen bright fabrics with a black background.  I also chose bright fabrics but used white in the background instead.  The white background will give this quilt a fresh summer look.  I really liked this pattern because it reminds me of the old 35mm film used in cameras...remember film before digital images?  Here's the quilt ready to be put on the frame...

and another...

I decided to quilt a feather wreath in each of the larger squares and feathers in the outside border.  I chose feathers because I need the practice and I'm sick of drawing them on paper (if the truth be told)!  They're not perfect but they don't look half bad.  I'm still pondering what fill I'll quilt in the white background and I think I will leave the small colored squares unquilted.  I promise to post pictures when it's all done!

Back to work tomorrow.  I'm already counting down till the next vacation!!!

A day to celebrate

Today was a day to celebrate my Goddaughters marriage to the man of her dreams. The minute we walked into the church my eyes teared up and I hadn't even seen Lindsey yet! The ceremony was beautiful and the reception a lot of fun. I have promised the new couple a wedding quilt and so a shopping trip or two are in order to pick out fabrics. Lindsey has chosen a traditional quilt in her wedding colors. Now to find the perfect pattern! This should be fun! Off to bed now! I'm all tuckered out from the festivities. Sweet dreams!

More heat on the way and next week...

The Weather Channel is forecasting more heat headed our way. Ugh!!! Have I mentioned that I'm a weather fanatic? No? Weather fascinates me. Especially storm systems. I have a healthy respect for Mother Nature and dislike hearing about how our weather has impacted individuals through flood or wind but give me a storm to watch and observe and I'm a happy camper! I like weather so much that I take pictures of storms.  This was the tail end of a hail storm.

Well, enough about that.

So, about next week. I'm on vacation and am pondering all of the many possibilities. Work on my Slideshow quilt, visit a quilt shop, load a quilt on the frame and quilt, throw a 4th of July picnic, visit another quilt shop...maybe spend the day at the beach! I can hardly wait! Should I happen to come home with a quilt related purchase or two I'll be sure to share...pictures, that is. ;)

Stay safe in the heat and don't forget to check on your elderly neighbors and friends. Till later...

It's going to be a stinker today!

I'm talking heat. We could see 100 degree temps today! It makes me grateful to have an air conditioned building to hide out in. I can't believe it's Thursday already. I did manage to get some piecing done on Sunday and I promise to post some pictures soon. I'm working on a lap size quilt. A sample was hanging in my LQS (local quilt shop). The pattern is called "Slideshow" and I thought it was really cool looking. The shop sample had a black background and I chose to do mine with a white background...perfect for a light summer quilt. I still have to add the borders then I can get the quilt on my long arm and have some fun! I actually will have two quilts to put on the long arm. I have a Thimblrberries quilt that has been waiting for me to put on the frame. Standby for pictures! Stay cool today!

What a great day!

I was able to figure out how to create my own blog.  It wasn't so hard.

We finally got out back to finish the flower beds and put mulch down.  It's the kind of mulch that has manure in it...stinky!  Didn't one of the dogs decided to roll her face in the mulch!  A little brushing and she was back to being beautiful again...except for the smell.  We are way behind schedule on our yard chores, but considering what the past few months have been like, I think we're doing ok.  A little behind but we're getting there.  The flower beds look so nice!  I'm always up at the crack of dawn so I'll get out early tomorrow morning to plant a flat of annuals.  A little Miracle Grow and they'll be fine.

Mark, me and our youngest son spent the evening with my parents for an early Father's Day celebration.  My Dad has learned how to use the Nook and so his father's day gift was several novels downloaded to Nook...we won't see him for a few weeks...LOL!  He has never used a computer before, or any new technology for that matter, and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly he learned to use the Nook.  Of course, my Dad is a pretty smart guy so I shouldn't be surprised.  My husband's father day gift was a pair of golfing shorts and new hat.  Happy Father's Day!!!

It's been a very satisfying day!

Welcome!

Welcome to Grassy Creek Quilting and my new blog. This is just a test for now. Be back soon!
